Translucence /trænˈsluː.səns/: the physical property of allowing light to pass through a material, but scattering it in such a way that objects on the other side cannot be seen clearly. It bridges the gap between total transparency (clear, see-through) and complete opacity (blocking all light).

There’s something inheritly mysterious about translucency—it makes me think about the relationship between what is seen and what is unseen.

Translucent things—from the sea to an inflated balloon to a sheet of vellum—hint toward a beautiful phenomenon in the human experience: the slow, beautiful emergence of an idea, the experience of something in the process of being revealed.
